Modern Mythology in a Lab Coat
Today, a powerful movement is reshaping human hopes and dreams.
From universities to government buildings, from the streets of developing nations to the living rooms of the West, folks are gripped by an AI vision that technology can solve all of mankind’s problems… work, money, disease, suffering, and perhaps even death.
It’s a global revolution that isn’t entirely sparked by injustice or oppression but by ordinary people believing paradise is within technological reach. This is the technology-driven “revolution of rising expectations,” and it’s happening right before us… front and center.
The Gospel of a Work-Free World
Modern visionaries don’t merely want change… they want coercive utopia and expect it sooner rather than later. People like Bill Gates are predicting a future without labor. This is echoed by professors across U.S. campuses now declaring that education, too, is outdated because it prepares students for a world of work they believe science will soon eliminate.
The older, biblical view of work as a calling is being discarded. Some now argue that a guaranteed income… without labor… is a basic human right in this new age of AI technology.
Let’s Define Science
Before we go too far, we should define science. Webster’s 1828 dictionary says this:
- In a general sense, knowledge, or certain knowledge; the comprehension or understanding of truth or facts by the mind. The science of God must be perfect.
- In philosophy, a collection of the general principles or leading truths relating to any subject. Pure science as the mathematics, is built on self-evident truths; but the term science is also applied to other subjects founded on generally acknowledged truths, as metaphysics, or on experiment and observation, as chemistry and natural philosophy, or even to assemblage of the general principles of an art, as the science of agriculture; the science of navigation. Arts relate to practice, as painting and sculpture.
Now, why the definition? Listen, when I was a kid, we were told butter and bacon would kill us. There were studies. This was supposed to be real science. But the studies were paid for by the margarine companies. Now, we are told by science that butter isn’t going to kill us and may be better for us than margarine. Some studies show the effects on the heart may be close to the same for both.
So, what really is science? Does it change? How often? Who pays for “scientific” studies? Are scientists always neutral and objective? Can scientists be bribed to come up with fabricated results? Lots and lots of questions, right?
Anyone who thinks science is fixed and permanent should read Thomas Kuhn’s book, The Structure Of Scientific Revolutions. Guaranteed to blow your mind.
Science And Technology as Savior
This new, unconditional, total trust in science and technology has become so powerful that some visionaries and even mainstream politicians now base their policies on it. Many believe that science and technology, fused with state power, can abolish work, disease, and even predict evil ahead of time. (I’m sure you’ve seen Minority Report.)
Scientists are already genetically designing our children. Some tech guys think we can build our own sun. Others claim that we’re on the verge of controlling life itself. This, they say, is no longer speculation but our destiny. The vision is nothing short of man remaking himself… and the entire world… in his own image.
When Science Becomes Magic
Once rooted in empirical observation and humility under God, science has now taken on the role of magic. Magic is not just about potions and incantations… it’s about control. Whether primitive or high-tech, magic aims to give man total power over nature, other men, and even the supernatural.
Today’s scientists may use refined AI tools and the language of optimism, but behind the curtains, the goal is the same: complete and total control. Modern science and technology, in rejecting their Christian foundations, has become the leading form of a new paganism.
The Return of Myth
Many scientists no longer define science as discovery but as prediction, planning, and control. In doing so, they are not advancing knowledge… they are reviving myth.
A myth tries to stop time, end history, and create a final order beyond good and evil. Marxism, technocracy, and other ideologies are all attempts to do this: freeze society into a perfect structure where progress ends and totalitarian paradise begins.
Playing God with Human Nature

The new technocrats declare that science will allow us to design our children physically and mentally. They say this will be “the greatest event in human history.” A brave new world, indeed.
Even mainstream scientists dream of godlike control over creation. Control the population. Control education. Control the food supply. Control all communications. Control money. Control it all. Cradle to grave.
Science as Religion
Atheists argue that belief in God is merely a psychological need… a leftover from childhood. Instead of clinging to a “father substitute,” he proposed that science can provide both the thrill and authority people crave.
Science, in this view, becomes a new religion. Other scientists have echoed this idea, calling modern science a “new renaissance” meant to overthrow traditional faiths, especially Christianity, which they see as outdated and restrictive.
The Myth of Evolution
At the heart of this modern mythology is the theory of evolution. Though often presented as new and revolutionary, evolution has been around since ancient pagan cultures. In fact, Classical culture relied on evolution for metaphysical explanations. Read about Anaximander. Only the Bible… and the Hebraic tradition… offered a doctrine of creation.
Evolution is not just a biological theory; it is a religious worldview that aims to remove God, make man autonomous, and justify a scientifically and technocratically planned society. In such a system, freedom is impossible. Controlled experiments require total control. Ever wondered why they wanted to vaccinate everyone without except? And that’s what the scientific state demands: obedience, not liberty.
A Dangerous Illusion
It’s true that science has accomplished much, please don’t get me wrong, but the mythology surrounding it has turned scientists, doctors, and technocrats into modern priests. Further, we often don’t distinguish between inventors, who build useful tools, and theorists, who speculate about the future. The theorists… though often wrong… get the spotlight, and their humanistic vision now drives global policies.
We are not witnessing true scientific advancement but entering a potential new Dark Age. This new era is not dark because of ignorance but because of arrogance. When science is cut off from truth and humility, when it promises salvation without God, it becomes a form of idolatry. Like the magicians of Egypt, today’s myth-makers dazzle the world with their power, but they are building on sand, and the consequences of this could be dire.
The Only Foundation That Will Stand
At the end of the day, no myth, no scientist, and no political revolution can deliver the paradise they all promise. “Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.”
This is not a call to reject real science but to return it to its rightful place… under God. Science is a tool, not a god. It can help humanity to fulfill our calling… to exercise stewardship over the earth… but this can only be achieved when it bows the knee to the Creator.
Today’s crisis isn’t just technical, political, or educational… it’s spiritual. The only true answer to the revolution of rising expectations is a return to the Creator, who alone can meet our deepest needs.
